Minimal Change Disease (MCD) is one of Nephrotic Syndrome. Recently our hospital admited a patient. This patient has taken steroid therapy for 11 years before coming to our hospital but his proteinuria still appears. In order to seek better treatment, he comes to our hospital.
At his age of 17 years old, he was diagnosed with chronic glomerulonephritis due to swelling in eyelids and legs. He took okra capsule for some time and he left the hospital with the disappearance of swelling.
Half year later, swelling relapsed and he was hospitalized again. At this time, he was in a Beijing’s hospital. The medical reports showed protein 3+ and 24h urine protein quantity 4.4g. The doctor told him that he suffered from Minimal Change Disease.
With 20 days of steroid therapy, proteinuria and swelling disappeared and he left the hospital.
Since that, he was taking medication for treatment but the swelling was still on and off. This patient knew his disease would not have better improvement with steroid therapy. In order to seek better treatment, he began to ask around and finally under one of friends’ introduction, he found our hospital and decided to come for Chinese medicine treatments.
Before our treatment, his protein was 2+, 24h urine protein quantity was 1.85g and his swelling was very severe. Also he had pleural effusion.
Many years of steroid therapy did not remove protein and swelling. It also caused many side effects like moon face.
Our Chinese Medicine treatments first remove toxins from his kidneys and bloodstream to set up a clean blood environment for recovering his renal function. External and Internal treatment like oral Chinese medicine soup and Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy combined together to recover kidney intrinsic cells so as to achieve the purpose of treating MCD.
After a period of Chinese Medicine Treatment, steroid dosage was reduced. Also protein became negative and 24h urine protein quantity was 0.08g. He felt much better.
Medical treatment is important so is diet. The doctor told him what he could eat and what he could not. he required to consume 30g high quality protein per day. His meal plan a day was 1 bag of milk, one egg, one catty of vegetables and fruits, and 100-150g staple food.
