    2014-08-09 08:43| Font Size A A A

Can Nephrotic Syndrome Patients Eat TofuIn our daily life, tofu is a delicious dish and popular among people due to its abundant nutritions. Well then, whether can Nephropathy Syndrome patients eat tofu or not? It attaches people’s more attention. You will find the answer in this article.

Tofu, or doufu, also know as bean curd, is a food made by coagulating soy milk and then pressing the resulting curd into soft white blocks. Tofu and bean products’ protein content is much higher than the beans and its protein belongs to complete protein. It not only contains the eight essential amino acids of the body needs, but also the its proportion was close to the human body needs. Therefore, tofu is packed with abundant nutritional value. And tofu also contains fat, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals and so on. Tofu tastes gan cool and has functions of clearing heat and detoxifying. Although tofu has so many benefits for healthy people, it does has some harms to Nephrotic Syndrome patients. For instance,

Tofu contains a large amount of protein. However, for people with kidney disease, they are allowed to limit intake of protein, because the diseased kidney fails to remove the extra metabolic products of protein. In this case, eating tofu will increase the amount of protein in the body and increase the workload to the kidneys as well as cause the further kidney damage. What’s more, eating too much tofu will affect the absorption of the iron. If so, it is easy to induce the dyspepsia of protein and lead to diarrhea.

    Renal dysfunction

In normal condition, the protein ingested by the body will experience the change of metabolism, and in the end, it will transform into nitrogenouz wastes which is discharged by the kidneys. However, the damaged kidneys fail to do this “job” and along with decline of renal function, eating too much tofu will increase the waste products and increase the burden of the kidneys.

According to the above analysis, we can see that tofu is unsuitable for nephrotic syndrome patients. Have any question, please talk with our online doctors, or contact us by leaving a message to
