    2014-08-31 07:02| Font Size A A A

Can Hyperuricemia Cause Kidney Failure Kidney Failure is a progressive disease and there is no cure for this kidney disease. There are many reasons like high blood pressure, diabetes can cause renal failure. Well then, can hyperuricemia lead to kidney failure?

    What is the hyperuricemia?

HUA is short for this symptom. It refers to a level of uric acid in the blood that is abnormally high. In humans, the upper end of the normal range is 360mmol/L (6mg/dl) for women and 400mmol/L (6.8mg/dl) for men. When the values beyond this range, it can be called hyperuricemia.

    How does hyperuricemia occur?

Causes of this symptom can be classified into three functional types:

    1. increased production of uric acid-high levels of purine in the diet and increased purine metabolism.

    2. decreased excretion of uric acid-caused by kidney disease, certain drugs and competition for excretion between uric acid and other molecules.

    3. mixed type-high levels of alcohol and/or fructose in the diet, and starvation.

How does hyperuricemia cause kidney failure?

It can cause kidney damage by the following ways:

    1. Acute Hyperuricrmia Nephropathy

It is mainly caused by large accumulation of uric acids on renal collecting duct, renal pelvis and ureter which will cause acute kidney failure. The clinical presentation of which include rapid reduction of kidney function in short period of time and occurrence of a series of clinical symptoms like vomiting, nausea, high creatinine levels, weakness, excessive urination, etc.

    2. Chronic Hyperuricemia Nephropathy

It is well know as Chronic Gout Nephropathy. It is unlike acute type. Usually, this kind of kidney problems are hidden and have obvious reduced renal function which are always accompanied by numerous symptoms.

    3. Kidney Stone

It is a common complication of hyperuricemia. For small kidney stone, they can be discharged by the urine, while, for the big stones, they will block urinary tract and cause urinary tract infection, thus resulting in hematuria (blood in urine), kidney failure, secondary infection and so on.

Through the above analysis, you should have a certain understanding of hyperuricemia.
