    2017-06-25 03:56| Font Size A A A

How To Diagnose IgA Nephropathy“Doctor, I want to ask if I am suffering from IgA Nephropathy. I have urine protein and occult blood. In my local hospital, I was checked with urine protein 3+ and occult blood 2+. Then I was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy”. This is a message from our website.

The measurement indicator for IgA Nephropathy is only urine protein and occult blood. Is it enough?

Of course not. IgA Nephropathy is related to mucosal immune system. It mainly refers to IgA or IgA depositing in glomerular mesangial area, which is a primary glomerular disease accompained or not accompanied by other immue globulin depositing in glomerular mesangial area.

Occult blood and urine protein are just symptoms of IgA Nephropathy. Occult blood and high urine protein are not always IgA Nephropathy. For example, urinary tract infection can also lead to occult blood. Nephritis and nephrotic syndrome also can lead to massive proteinuria.

IgA Nephropathy is a chronic disease. With the development of your illness condition, you may also suffer from high blood pressure and kidney dysfunction. Therefore, IgA Nephropathy should be checked by several tests other than single index judgment.

    1. Urine test

Blood in urine: If urinary erythrocyte morphology is polymorphism, it indicates your blood urine comes from glomeruli.

Protein in urine: IgA Nephropathy does not certainly cause protein in urine.

    2. Kidney function test

Serum creatinine level: When serum creatinine level elevates to 132.6umol/L, you have a larger chance to suffer from IgA Nephropathy. But it can also be caused by other kidney diseases.

    3. Immunologic test

37-75% patients have IgA specific circulating immune complexes. 50% patients have increased serum IgA level. Therefore, immunologic test plays an important role in diagnosing IgA Nephropathy.

Various tests and patients’illness history and clinical symptoms can help you diagnose IgA Nephropathy exactly. Only diagnosis is correct can you get a correct treatment.
