What is Life Expectancy for FSGS Patients

    2014-11-23 08:28| Font Size A A A

What is Life Expectancy for FSGS Patients When diagnosed with Focal Segmental Glomerular Sclerosis (FSGS), how is my life expectancy may become the most concerned questions for patients and their family members. Do you want to know the answer? Please read on.

Now, let’s have a look at the overall of FSGS.

FSGS is one of the causes of Nephrotic Syndrome, and it is usually detected among teenagers and children. This kind of kidney disease is a kind of disease that the glomerular epithelial cells are damaged, people usually have diarrhea and upper respiratory infection before onset of FSG. And massive protein in urine is also the commonly seen clinical symptom in FSGS.

Well then, what can affect life expectancy for FSGS?

Actually, may factors can affect the answer including lifestyles, diet, complications, nursing, treatment options as well as the therapeutic effects.

The life expectancy is associated with the severity of kidney damage. If the kidneys have been severely impaired or with Membranous Nephropathy, patients have greater risk of Kidney Failure.

If the disease is not treated timely or without effective treatment, the life span will be shortened to some extent.

To get a good prognosis, patients’ mental state is also important. And keep a positive attitude is very essential.

What is life expectancy for FSGS patients?

It has been reported that half of FSGS patients with 24-h proteinuria 3-3.5g will develop Renal Failure within 6-8 years, while if proteinuria can be controlled into less than 3g, FSGS patients can remain normal conditions for 10 years.

In addition, when FSGS progresses renal failure, dialysis or kidney transplant can be applied. In general, the average life expectancy of FSGS patients on dialysis is 4.25 years and only 23% of dialysis patients can live for 10 years. Kidney transplant is regarded as the last choice for kidney disease patients, but for FSGS patients, kidney transplant may not be the best choice.

All in all, the earlier treatment is applied, the better the chance of slowing or stopping its progression. Have a question? Please leave a message below or contact our online doctors directly.
