Creatinine Level Decreased to 4 Still Dialysis Required

    2014-03-31 05:49| Font Size A A A

Creatinine Level Decreased to 4 Still Dialysis RequiredCreatinine level is a reflection of patient’s kidney function, and when patient’s creatinine level is high enough, dialysis will also be recommended. Usually, doctors will recommend their patients to take dialysis when their creatinine level reaches 5. Well then, if patient’s creatinine level has been brought down to 4, is dialysis still be needed at this point?

Why dialysis is needed when patient’s creatinine level is high?

Kidney has the function of removing fluid and metabolic wastes from patient’s body, which can regulate the balance of electrolytes, acid-base and fluid in patient’s body. When patient’s kidney function is damaged severely, the internal balance will be broken, and that can cause patients to have many heath problems. To remove the wastes in patient’ s body and correct the internal body balance, patients will need to take dialysis at this point.

Creatinine level is a reflection of patient’s kidney function, and when patients’ kidney function is reduced, creatinine will accumulate and cause high creatinine. When patient’s creatinine level is very high, that means patient’s kidney function is very low, and patients will need dialysis to correct his internal body balance.

Is dialysis still required when patient’s creatinine level decreased to 4?

As we have said, creatinine level 5 is a standard for patients with kidney disease to consider whether they should accept dialysis. So, it seems patients can stop dialysis when his creatinine level is decreased to 4.

However, creatinine is a standard to assess whether dialysis is needed, but it is not a standard to decide it. Dialysis will be needed when patient’s GFR is low, and it is also needed when patients have severe health problems caused by the metabolic disorder of electrolytes, acid-base and fluid.

Thereby, if just patient’s creatinine level is lowered, while patient’s kidney function and GFR have not been improved, or there are severe health problems caused by metabolic disorder in patient’s body, dialysis will be still needed.
