CKD stage 4 refers to the second advanced stage of chronic kidney disease. A person with CKD stage 4 has advanced kidney damage with a severe decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) to 15-30 ml/min. It is likely someone with stage 4 CKD will need dialysis or a kidney transplant in the near future in many countries.
If CKD stage 3 can not be controlled well, the condition gradually develops CKD stage 4 with the continue decrease in GFR. The most common causes of kidney damage are diabetes and high blood pressure. Other conditions that affect the kidneys are glomerulonephritis, Polycystic Kidney Disease, lupus and other diseases that affect the immune system, repeated urinary infections, kidney stones, etc.
In addition to protein in the urine, blood in the urine, high blood pressure, high creatinine level, high BUN level and other abnormal items showed on test report, other possible symptoms include:
-Fatigue: Feeling tired is common for people with CKD and is often caused by anemia.
-Urination changes: Urine may be foamy if there is protein in it, or dark orange, brown, tea colored or red if it contains blood. A person may urinate more or less than normal, or get up at night to go to the bathroom.
-Too much fluid: The kidneys may lose their ability to control how much fluid stays in the body. A person may notice swelling (edema) in their lower legs, hands or face around the eyes. With too much fluid someone, could even feel short of breath.
-Nausea: Vomiting or feeling nauseated may occur with CKD.
-Taste changes: Food may not taste like it usually does, or may have a metallic taste.
-Uremic breath: As urea builds up in the blood, it may be detected in the breathing causing bad breath.
-Loss of appetite: People in this stage may not feel like eating, and some people report having a metallic taste in their mouth or bad breath.
-Kidney pain: Most people with CKD do not have kidney pain, but with some kinds of kidney problems, such as polycystic kidney disease (PKD) or infections, they may have pain in their back where the kidneys are located.
-Difficulty in concentrating: Having trouble balancing a checkbook or focusing on reading the newspaper can happen with CKD.
-Sleep problems: Some people have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Itching, muscle cramps or restless legs can keep them awake.
-Nerve problems: Numbness or tingling in your toes or fingers is a symptom of CKD.
There is no an exact answer to the life expectancy of CKD stage 4, that is because many factors can affect the result. The increased amounts of these waste substances can affect the person's other organs such as the heart, and can drastically affect one's life expectancy. In fact, sometimes the complications can even kill you quicker than the kidney problem itself. Just like with the symptoms, how one goes about with the treatment process can have a huge say if the patient will live long or not. For this level of illness, there are different forms of treatment available. There is the use of specific medications combined with specialized diets that emphasizes and reduces specific nutrients. This is known to be very effective in increasing the life expectancy of patients, but it's not all that effective if the kidney damage is found to be extensive. An efficient treatment can really help patients improve the life expectancy of CKD stage 4. Do you want to evaluate your CKD? Now click here: How Long It Takes from CKD stage 4 to Stage 5?
Blood purification is not a single treatment, but a series of treatment options which can clean the wastes and harmful substances which can cause and worsen renal function such as immune complexes, extracellular matrix, inflammatory factors, etc. Blood purification treatment includes plasm exchange, immune adsorption, hemoperfusion, etc.
Dialysis is usually not recommended in stage 4 CKD. However, if serious discomforts occur, the patients should initiate dialysis. But it is not a cure for kidney disease at all.
Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy is a new application of traditional Chinese herbal medicine. It combines the essence of traditional Chinese medicine and modern medical technique to show more dominant effects in treating stage 4 CKD. Based on individual condition, different types of herbs are applied in Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy.
This therapy is featured with anti-inflammation,anti-coagulation, dilating blood vessels and degrading extracellular matrix. By eliminating the triggering factors of kidney damage and improve microcirculation in kidneys, it can stop the disease progression.Another important function of this therapy is to stimulate the self-repairing system of the body to promote the self-regeneration of impaired kidney tissues, thus enhancing renal function significantly.
ESRD, dialysis and kidney transplant can be avoided effectively, if the kidney function can be enhanced obviously. If you are interested in Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy or have any follow-up questions about CKD stage 4, you are welcomed to leave us a message below.
