    2014-04-10 02:59| Font Size A A A

Stage 4 Renal Failure And Swelling in The HandsKidney Failure is a state that patient’s kidney function fails to filtrate out the metabolic wastes from patient’s body adequately, and for patients with stage 4 kidney failure, their condition is already very severe, which can cause patients to have many health problems at this point.

In fact, a common symptom often appear to patients with stage 4 renal failure is swelling, which often appears in patient’s legs, eyelids, etc. So, if patients have swelling in their hands, what can we know from this condition?

    Why patients have swelling?

Swelling in patients with kidney disease is caused by Edema, which means there will be excess fluid accumulating in patient’s body tissues. For patients with kidney disease, there are two major reasons can cause patients to have edema. One is massive proteinuria, and the other is patient’s low kidney function.

While for patients with stage 4 kidney failure, their kidney function is so low that it is normal for them to have much excess fluid accumulating in their body. As a result, the excess fluid will cause patients to have swelling. Besides, protein plays an important role in keeping the osmotic pressure of blood vessel, and when patients have massive protein loss, much fluid will also flow into patient’s tissue spaces and cause swelling.

Why patients with stage 4 renal failure have swelling in their hands?

Even though patients with stage 4 kidney failure have low kidney function, and it is very likely for them to have swelling due to the accumulation of fluid in their body. However, it is also very likely for patients to have massive proteinuria at this point.

If patients’ edema is caused by the accumulation of excess fluid, it is more likely for patients to have swelling in their eyelids firstly, because excess fluid is more likely to appear in thin skin. While if patients have edema due to massive proteinuria, it is more likely for them to have swelling in their lower limbs, because when the osmotic pressure of blood is reduced, fluid is more likely to in the lower parts of patient’s body due to gravity.

As we know, kidney disease is very dangerous, and patients should do what they can to improve their condition. If you have any trouble, you can send your problem and details to, and we will provide the guidance you need or do what we can top help you.
