    How Much Protein Is Recommended to Stage 4 CKDPeople who are diagnosed with Kidney Disease are required to have a low-protein diet to reduce the burden of the kidneys. As we all know, kidney disease is divided into five stages, well then, how much protein is recommended to Stage 4 CKD?

    The causes of low-protein diet for kidney disease patients.

    Our healthy kidneys are responsible to discharge extra wastes and toxins from the body effectively. However, the damaged kidneys fail to function properly. In this case, eating too much protein will increase the workload on kidneys and cause severe condition such as proteinuria, or swelling. Therefore, a low-protein diet is necessary for kidney disease patients.

    Then, how much protein is recommended to Stage 4 CKD?

    For stage 4 kidney disease patients, how much protein is recommend to them? That needs to depend on patients’ codition, including age, sex, weight, glomerular filtration rate, creatinine level and so on. There is no answer for the question. But nephrologist in our treatment center give the general suggestion about proper protein intake in different stages of kidney disease. For example, patients with early stage of renal disease, such as Stage 1 and Stage 2 CKD, are suggested to take 0.8g/kg/day. For patients with Stage 3~5, the protein intake should be less than 0.8g/kg/day.
