Best Food to Replenish Energy After Dialysis

Best Food to Replenish Energy After DialysisIt is a common sense that dialysis patients can not eat food freely as healthy people do because of the injured kidneys. And some patients may feel weak, fatigue anemia and so on after dialysis. In this view, they should pay more attention to their daily diet. Then, what food can replenish energy for dialysis patients? Let’s have a look at this article.

    High-quality protein

Kidney disease patients are often suggested to consume low-protein diet so as to reduce the burden of the kidneys. However, for dialysis patients, they should take protein to meet the body needs. Why? Because during the process, not only the waste products can clear away, but also some nutritions will be brought away. In order to replenish energy, they can take high-quality protein and the protein intake can increased to 1.2g. In addition, it could not be better if protein comes form lean meant, egg white, fish, milk etc.

    Low-sodium food

Low-sodium food are suggested to dialysis patients. There is no doubt that high-sodium intake will can worsen the illness condition. It can increase the risks of high blood pressure and water-retention. In order to guarantee the therapeutic effect, patient should keep away from high-sodium food, like canned food, processed food, fast food, chips and so on. Home-cooked food is the best choice for dialysis patients because we can control how much salt you can add into your diet.

    High calcium food

High calcium diet helps dialysis patients prevent or remit bone problems like bone pain, bone fracture and even osteoporosis. May foods are high in calcium like cheese, sesame seeds, falx seeds, tofu, yogurt and herring and so on. All of them can provide abundant calcium. But what I want to stress is that if your potassium and phosphorus level are still higher than the normal range after dialysis, you may not be allowed to eat these foods.

    Water intake

Water is an important part of our body. And it can be regarded as the best “cleaner” of our body. But for dialysis patients, they should control their water intake. Dialysis can help move extra water out of the body when kidney fails to do this job. If you drink much water, in the next dialysis, more water can be discharged and it is easy to cause low blood pressure. So to avoid it, patients should consult their doctor how much water they can intake.

    Other requirements

Some dialysis diets may also call for limited potassium and phosphorus.

Only have a right eating plan, can you replenish energy for your body. Every patient is different and therefore, always remember to discuss your condition with your doctors or our Online Doctors. You can get an individualized advice on dialysis diet.
