Is One Kidney Sufficient to Live A Healthy Way

Is One Kidney Sufficient to Live A Healthy Way Most people have two kidneys while some people live with one kidney due to some factors. Well then, is one kidney sufficient to live a healthy way?

Generally speaking, there are three main reasons why a person may have only one kidney:

    1. A person may be born with only one kidney.

    2. A person may have had one kidney removed during an operation in order to treat an injury or a disease like cancer.

    3. A person may have donated one kidney to a person who needed a kidney transplant.

Well then, is one kidney sufficient to live a healthy way?

Actually, many reports show that many patients can live normal, healthy lives with one kidney. However, it is important to stay as healthy as possible, and protect the only kidney you have. If you were born with only one normal kidney or if one kidney was damaged or removed during childhood, then remaining kidney will grow faster and become larger than the normal. In fact, remaining kidney cam grow to become almost the same size as two combined kidneys. This helps it do all the work that two kidneys would normally do.

Then, can one transplanted kidney work as well as two?

It’s my duty to tell you that everything has two sides, and there is no exception for patients with kidney transplant. Careful testing has shown that a transplanted kidney can also increases in size and function, it can reach a leave of function that is about 40 percent greater than a normal level for a single kidney. However, some patients will experience objection after surgery, which is dangerous for kidney failure patients.

Last but not least, how to live a healthy life with one kidney?

Most people with one healthy kidney do not need to follow a special diet. However, if you have a kidney transplant due to kidney disease or kidney failure, you may have some restrictions in your daily life, including diet, lifestyles, medications and so on.
