Causes and Treatment for Nausea in CKD

Causes and Treatment for Nausea in CKDchronic kidney disease is a progressive disease, which can damage patient’s kidney function gradually. Kidney is an important organ, and it is in charge of our body’s internal metabolic balances. As a result, many health problems will be caused in the process of CKD damaging patient’s kidney function.

A common symptom in patients with CKD is nausea, and it can affect patient’s life quality obviously. Well then, why patients with CKD often have nausea? How to treat this problem?

Why patients with CKD have nausea?

Nausea is a problem in patient’s digestive system, which can be caused several reasons.

A major cause of nausea is gastrointestinal edema, which means patients have edema in his gastrointestinal tract. Many CKD patients can have massive proteinuria, which can cause severe edema, and patients can even have edema in their gastrointestinal tract.

Another common cause of nausea is high urea level in patient’s body, which can stimulate the bacteria in gastrointestinal tract to secrete urease, which can decompose urea into ammonia. Ammonia has strong irritation to gastrointestinal mucous membrane, which can cause patients to have nausea.

Besides, when patient’s kidney function is low, there will be many other metabolic wastes accumulating in patient’s body, which can also stimulate patient’s gastrointestinal tract.

How to treat nausea in CKD?

As we can see, the major cause of nausea is gastrointestinal edema and the accumulation of metabolic wastes in patient’s body, especially urea. Thereby, to relieve nausea, these problems should be controlled.

Diet is an important aspect to control patient’s condition. To treat gastrointestinal edema, patients may need to supply the lost protein from their urine, which can increase the osmotic pressure of blood. On the other hand, it is necessary for patients to avoid much excess protein intake and have moderate calory intake, because that reduce the urea level in patient’s blood.

Besides, it is necessary to reduce the accumulation of metabolic wastes in patient’s blood, and that needs to improve patient’s kidney function. In fact, Chinese medicine will be a perfect choice to achieve this purpose, because Chinese medicine can promote patient’s self-repairing ability by treating disease systemically. It also has obvious effect in promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, which are very helpful for repairing patient’s damaged kidney structure.

On the other hand, if patient’s overall condition is very severe, dialysis will be a good choice to correct the metabolic disorders in patient’s body.

As we know, kidney disease is very dangerous, and patients should do what they can to improve their condition. If you need any help, you can send email to ckdstage@hotmail.com. We will provide the guidance you need or do what we can to help you.
